IT WASN'T UNTIL I SHIFTED MY FOCUS TO PRIORITIZING MY GUT HEALTH THAT EVERYTHING CHANGED.
From a young age, my gut health has always required special attention due to a surgery, blood transfusion, and subsequent LOADS of antibiotics I received as an infant. I battled with a range of gut-related symptoms, including constipation, bloating, hormonal imbalances, and eczema, and the struggle intensified as I experienced relentless sugar cravings, which led to a 20-pound weight gain.
When my doctor told me I needed to lose weight, I had no idea where to start. It was 2007 and I was a junior in high school. I’d seen my friends doing SouthBeach, Atkins, and the infamous SpecialK diet – I tried them all to no avail. Determined to find a sustainable approach, I pursued a career as a dietitian, eager to understand the science behind healthy weight loss.
Through applying what I was learning in the classroom and doing the deeper, inner-self work, I successfully shed 20 pounds and have maintained my weight loss for over a decade.
But weight loss didn't fix everything...
Despite my achievements on the scale, cystic acne, severe PMS symptoms, an unyielding sweet tooth, and daily bloating continued to plague me. Stubborn belly fat also persisted, and honestly I didn't feel as happy as I had anticipated.
That's when I shifted my mindset towards a gut-healthy, food-inclusive approach. By adopting a holistic approach that addressed the underlying causes of my digestive issues, I experienced a complete transformation in my relationship with food, my gut symptoms, and my weight loss journey. Embracing the importance of gut health allowed me to break free from the endless cycle of frustration and disappointment, and instead, discover a sustainable path towards overall well-being. When my clients start following my gut-health protocols, they almost immediately experience these benefits, too!
